For the longest time I've wanted a rear back up camera and hook it up to my HU, but the price was quite prohibitive. Ranging from $150-$300, I couldn't justify spending that kind of money on something that would be rarely used. Then one day I found a build up of TCao's rig on the forums and he mentioned an Anudiovox band camera. A couple of searches came up with a price hovering about $120. For some odd reason I searched of it on ebay and round someone selling it for $25+$10 shipping. Upon arrival I was surprise to find out that the camera's housing was metal! Most everything out there looked like plastic, but this was metal with an encased camera with IR LED's on the sides.Installation was straight forward. I removed the center hub on the rear tire and mounted the camera in the tire mount. Ran the wiring through the rear door conduit all the way up to the front stereo through the passenger side sill.
Power to the radio and the camera was spliced from the parking switch on the front console.
Now every time I turn on the parking switch, the monitor automatically turns to camera mode and displays the back of the car. The only problem is that the image is not reversable, so the image on the screen is the view if you turn your head and look out the back window.
For such a cheap price for the camera, I can learn to adjust to the image orientation.
So far it works wonderfully. Even got a chance to admire a white Audi R8 that was behind me at a stop light!
