Secondary Battery

Well, the Optima yellowtop purchased in late 2007 connected to the FJ via the secondary battery kit finally gave out. It has lasted more than4 years and supplied power to the FJ's external lights and stereo system. My Kenwood was acting up a bit, and I didn't know why until I put a multimeter to test the voltage, <11v. Then tried to charge it up using and external charger to no avail. Many on the forum site were moving from the Optima's to the Sears branded Odyssey batteries, but if I changed, I would have to change the battery tray also. A quick inquiry to Dirty Parts got me a quote of >175 for a new steel tray to fit the Sears Die Hard Platinums. WOW, don't think so! so went to Pep boys and picked up another Yellowtop, and now all is well.
